Dog friendly

We are proud to be well known as a dog friendly venue and with some lovely walks round about what more of an excuse do you need to pop in for a pint or something to eat!

The Blacksmiths Arms hosts its very own Dog Bar with fresh water and bowls available as well as dog treats in return for a donation to our favourite K9 charity The Dogs Trust.  To date we have raised £900!

This fantastic charity never puts a healthy dog down and will look after them for the rest of their lives if they cannot be reholmed.  We rescued our own dog, Shandy from the Dogs Trust in Leeds in 2006.  She had been left abondoned outside the centre with a note from her owner asking them to find her a new home and a £10 note tucked in her collar for her keep.  Just a week later we brought her home and she loves to make new K9 friends!

Instead of sending our customers a Christmas Card each year we now sponsor a dog with The Dogs Trust, our first sponsor dog was ’Tasha’ who was a permanent resident at the Dogs Trust in Leeds. We were delighted to receive a letter in March 2008 saying that 7 years after being rescued she had been placed with a new family. Our sponsorship money then helped to look after ’Wellie’ another abandoned dog at the Dogs Trust in Leeds.  Sadly after a short illness in the summer of 2009 his vet felt it would be kinder to put him to sleep and we now sponsor “Kurt” on behalf of all our customers.

Our K9 customers are very welcome in the Beer Garden and most area’s of the Pub with the exception of the main dining area.  Our holiday cottage is also pet friendly and ideal for that UK holiday.

“woof woof” – please make sure your owners keep you on a lead and when you start to get a bit mischevious remember they might tell you off! also some of our customers aren’t always dog people so don’t be offended if occassionaly we have to ask you to move at the request of other customers, there will always be plenty of dog lovers in the pub though so we can promise you alot of fussing.  And don’t forget to sniff out the dog treats ( they are just outside the back door!)
